Therapy that meets you where you are.
At Koar Health, accessibility is more than being able to book an appointment.
It means meeting people in environments that make sense for them, respecting how they communicate and experience the world, recognising the importance of culture and identity, and ensuring they remain an active participant in decisions about their own support.
Who We Are
At “Koar” or at the “Core” of every person is a unique combination of identity, values, strengths, experiences, relationships and aspirations. We believe meaningful health and wellbeing begins by understanding and supporting that whole person — not simply treating a diagnosis, difficulty or limitation.
We are a collective of independent allied health therapists providing mobile and online services across Melbourne and Sydney. Our therapists have graduated from Australian institutions, are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and bring extensive experience delivering assessments and therapy across clinic, home, school and community settings.
Koar was created around a simple idea: support should fit into a person’s life, rather than asking the person to fit into a service.
For some people, attending a clinic or travelling into the community can create unnecessary physical, sensory, emotional or practical barriers. Our mobile model allows therapy to happen where life actually happens — at home, at school and within the community. Telehealth also provides another flexible way to access support when in-person services may not be practical.
By meeting people within familiar environments, including the places where they feel safest and most comfortable, we can better understand their everyday strengths, challenges, routines and goals.
Whether someone is navigating a physical disability, neurodivergence, developmental differences, mental health challenges or other barriers to participation, our aim is to make high-quality allied health support more accessible, personal and relevant to everyday life.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide accessible, respectful and person-led allied health support that helps people participate meaningfully in the lives they choose.
We work alongside each person, their family and their support network to understand what matters to them and identify practical ways to build capacity, confidence and independence.
Rather than focusing on changing a person to meet society’s expectations, we seek to understand the individual, recognise their strengths and reduce the barriers around them.
Ultimately, we want therapy to support more than achievement of clinical goals. We want it to contribute to greater choice, participation, autonomy and quality of life.
How We Practise
Neuroaffirming
Different brains experience, process and interact with the world differently.
Our neuroaffirming approach respects neurological differences as part of human diversity. We seek to understand each person’s individual communication, sensory experiences, strengths, interests and support needs rather than expecting them to conform to a single idea of what is “normal.”
Our role is not to change who someone is. It is to help them understand themselves, advocate for their needs, develop meaningful skills and participate in ways that are authentic and sustainable for them.
Trauma-Informed
We recognise that past and present experiences can influence how a person feels, communicates, builds trust and engages with therapy.
Our trauma-informed approach prioritises emotional and physical safety, trust, transparency, collaboration, choice and control. We aim to create therapeutic relationships where people feel heard and respected, and where support progresses at a pace that considers their individual experiences and readiness.
Culturally Safe & Responsive
Culture, language, family, identity and community can all shape how a person understands health, disability, independence and support.
Koar welcomes people from multicultural and multilingual communities and is committed to providing culturally responsive care. We approach each person with curiosity and respect rather than assumptions, recognising that meaningful therapy needs to consider the person’s own cultural values, family structures, communication preferences and lived experiences.
We are also committed to culturally safe practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes recognising the importance of culture, Country, family and community, listening to the individual and their community, and continually reflecting on our own practice so that care is respectful and free from racism, discrimination and cultural judgement.
The KOAR Values
K - Kindness
Kindness - Care starts with kindness.
We approach every person with empathy, patience and respect. We recognise that asking for support can sometimes feel vulnerable, and we aim to create relationships where clients and families feel genuinely listened to, valued and supported.
Kindness also means looking beyond what may be visible on the surface and seeking to understand the person and their circumstances before making assumptions.
O - Openness
Openness - There is no single pathway that works for everyone.
We remain open to different perspectives, cultures, identities, ways of communicating and ways of experiencing the world. We listen, reflect and adapt our approach according to the person in front of us.
Openness also means honest communication. We value collaboration with clients, families, educators, support workers and other professionals, because the best outcomes are often achieved when everyone can contribute their perspective.
A - Autonomy
Autonomy - Your life. Your goals. Your choices.
We strongly believe that building capacity and supporting independence can strengthen a person’s sense of autonomy.
Therapy should not be about making decisions for someone. Wherever possible, we support people to understand their options, communicate their preferences, develop skills and make informed choices about their own lives.
Independence also looks different for everyone. For some, it may mean completing a task independently. For others, it may mean knowing what support they need, directing that support and having genuine control over how it is provided.
R - Right Fit
Right Fit - Good therapy is not simply about finding a therapist — it is about finding the right therapist.
Every person has different goals, personalities, communication styles, cultural backgrounds and support needs. We believe the therapeutic relationship matters, and that clients should feel comfortable with the person supporting them.
We aim to thoughtfully match clients with therapists according to their needs, goals, location, experience and therapeutic approach. And if we are not the right fit, we believe in being transparent about that too.
Because the right support should feel like it was designed around you — not the other way around.
